Home insurance premiums have crept up across Mississippi over the past few years, but a higher renewal notice doesn't have to be the final word. Here are five changes we regularly help clients make that lower their rate without leaving their home underprotected.
1. Raise your deductible
Bumping your deductible from $1,000 to $2,500 can meaningfully lower your annual premium. The tradeoff is a bigger out-of-pocket cost if you do file a claim, so this works best if you have savings set aside to cover the difference.
2. Bundle your home and auto policies
Carriers reward multi-policy households. Bundling home and auto with the same carrier often unlocks a discount on both policies — and it's one of the first things we check when shopping your rate.
3. Ask about home improvements
A new roof, updated wiring, or a modern HVAC system can lower your risk profile in the eyes of an insurer. If you've made improvements since your last renewal, tell your agent — it may not show up automatically.
4. Install protective devices
Monitored smoke detectors, water leak sensors, and security systems can qualify you for discounts. Some carriers offer meaningful savings for a relatively small upfront cost.
5. Shop your policy every year or two
Rates shift as carriers adjust their appetite for risk in different areas. Because we're an independent agency, we can shop your policy across multiple carriers each renewal to make sure you're still getting a competitive rate — instead of assuming loyalty pays off.
